Default April BWE Changes

That time of the month again, when the NDA lifts and all the recent alterations to the game become fair game for updates. The following is far from comprehensive, but at least it's a starting point.

If you've found any changes not listed or have more details on them, post them below, please.

Worlds: When you first logon or create an account you'll select your "world" or the group of servers you'll be playing on. There are 3 at the moment "American", "European", and "International". No, this isn't the beginning of a shard system, you'll be limited to traveling to districts from your world or to "international" districts which every world can travel to. You'll also be matched up against teams from other worlds in PvP combat, especially in GvG or the Tombs. It's mostly in place to both improve people's connections as well as for the "Worlds at War" - where each world can receive a bonus by doing something. You can switch your world through account options but you can only do it 5 times.

GUI: The GUI's been tweaked again. Nothing as major as the last time but there are some noticable differences. The biggest I've made note of is that the options for a quest when you talk to an NPC are a lot bigger and much more clear. Also, the screens for character creation, especially PvP character creation are different (Oh, and you can dye your PvP armor now. Nothing like pwning in style).

Personal Storage: There's now a "Vault Keeper" at most outposts. This Vault Keeper is a way for you to exchange goods between your characters. There's a one-time fee of 50G to "unlock" the Vault for each of your characters before they can have access to it. If you make a new character you'll have to pay 50G from your first character to access the Vault to store an item and then another 50G for your other character to retrieve it. It's a one-time fee, apparently, so you only need to pay it once per character not every time you use the Vault or every other week or so. You can store any items you want there although there are a limited number of slots (anyone know how many exactly? Or if you can upgrade it?). You cannot store, and therefore trade, gold through the Vault.

The New Area: It's revealed to be on the far bottom left corner of the map. It's a rocky and volcanic land full of blackened stone and lava (which inflicts On Fire and Crippled conditions when you walk in it). There's PvP and PvE content there now. For PvP there's a new Arena, random-matchup type area called "The Crag". It's a CTF or relic-running map where you'll need to take a relic from the enemy's side and return it to yours. Seems to be 6v6 from what I've seen althoguh I'm not certain. For PvE, it's the unveling of, at least part, of the Worlds at War system. The maps aren't immediately reachable but when someone from your "world" manages to defend or capture the Hall of Hereos in the Tombs at the Temple of the Ages, a Ghostly Hero will appear for a brief time (About 2 minutes, I think) and if you talk to him and pay him 1000 gold you'll be able to travel to a PvE zone (unsure of the name). It's reportedly a very tough place full of high-level monsters. There's a problem though in that you don't have much time to talk to the Hero so you pretty much end up sitting around waiting for the winner of the latest Hall match to be announced and then scramble.

Fame: Fame sticks or the staves that indicated your fame rank, are now gone Fame appears to be account based (this is confirmed, thanks).

Winning the Hall: There's a global shout declaring who's won the last match in the Hall of Heroes as well as the world that team comes from, presumably for WaW content reasons. Nice for bragging rights, too. When you win in the hall, your chest now holds a rare, high-level item (Thanks, Xma) as well as the celestial sigil. Unconfirmed - There appears to be a bug with morale bonuses carrying over from map to map in the Tombs. Namely, that they don't, especially the morale bonuses from Warden hunting on the first map.

Chat: New chat features have been added. There's now a trade chat channel. Also, the text you enter into your chat window is color coded based on the chat channel you're talking in. Chat filters have been added to screen the following: All, Team, Guild, Trade, and Emotes.

Pets: Pet AI seems markedly improved. When pets die there's no longer a DP (Pets have DP, their masters used to get DP when a pet died) instead your skills are locked for 3~5 seconds. Also, pets can be renamed with the command /namepet {name} or /petname {name}.

Quests: A few of the quests in Pre-Searing got shuffled around a bit. Mostly just changes in dialog. The interface for quests is now a bit more friendly with big buttons with graphical icons representing things like "Yes" or "No" and "Reward" although there are still some remnants of the old dialog boxes to be found. The biggest change I noticed is that the Secondary Profession quest moved from being given by Haversdan, the NPC who appears after finishing your test, to Master Armin Saberlin (who you might remember from Mission 2's sidequest) who's right besides Sir Tydus. Past Post-Searing several quests giving skill rewards are now beginning to crop up.

Armor
Still gathering all the data, especially the crafting information but the following armors are available on a PvP character. Quick impressions: Gladiator armor is markedly superior to the other Warrior choices, especially if you can get absorbtion runes. Monks have a choice between +5 against elemental damage, -4 energy for +physical, and +6 energy. Which one do you think you should take? Elementalist armor is a roll of the die for which elemental protection you like. Rangers get to play that crapshoot, too, or go for better energy - take the energy. Necromancers still have the best caster armor with a base 70 weak only against holy. Mesmers have a choice between more armor when they cast and more energy - take the energy.

Skills
Losts of things to go through, and none of it is in our skills database yet but I'll post it here for now. I'm still mulling over it all but some general impressions: Ranger damage - trap and bow, and Water damage both went down. Malaise got turned from a nice skill to nearly useless, Blood Renewal's still useless. Rezsig looks better and better. The vast majority of pet shouts are no longer. And a moment of silence for our dear, departed friend, the Unnatural Signet.

"-Equipment Slots: A starting RP character now has only one slot to equip their weapons and/or shields. A PvP character has two. Are equipment slots now something that needs to be purchased or unlocked? Or is it just a bug?"

Unless im misinterpreting this, it's just a GUI change, you can open up the other slots again in the inventory screen, big button labelled "weapon sets" tick all the boxes and you have your 4 weapon slots back

- When winning in the Hall of Heroes, the chest holds now a rare item (in addition to the celestial sigil), which is assigned randomly to a player. (I think it is always a max damage/energy one). There might still be bugs preventing you to pick up the items sometimes.

- Morale bonuses from killing wardens doesn't carry over anymore to first Tomb PVP map.

The amount of attribute points you'll get increases as you level. First you'll gain 5, then 10, then 15 and so on until scaled so that you reach a maximum of 200 attribute points at level 20. The first several levels you won't gain mor than 5AP, basically.

About items from HoH chest :

After seeing a dozen maxed items from the chest, we got a 5-28 axe.

So not always max, but drop table must be be high-level.

No idea. I've tried both American and European and both worked fine for me with no noticeable difference. Except, you know, everyone speaking German on the Euro servers. That it's something to do with connection speeds is speculation but it makes sense that they're using these regions to balance server loads and populations in some way. That makes for better connections for everyone, hopefully.

That's exactly right, Saus. We want to give everyone the best possible service, so players choosing the world that is most local to them is always a good decision.

There will be other reasons that you want to select a world and stick with it. This has to do with tournament play. Details will become more apparent upon release, although you've certainly seen a hint of it with the green broadcast announcements and some accessible regions in this BWE. We definitely have more tasty things in store for you.

May I ask if anyone has tested the new weapon statistics? I know there are a few bows such as eternal and shadow, but I'm not sure about their stats.

From my experiences, the eternal bow has really fast rate of fire, and decent speed travel, but this might be cause of lag. Shadow is horrible, and storm is somewhere between horn and short. This is just guess from playing, and is completely inaccurate :P I'd hope for testers to post their results.

EDIT: My connection was on crack, half-moon and short bow should still be the fastest. Storm/Eternal isn't that great other then looks, and shadow is just plain horrible. Course, this is from experience, and my connection might still be screwy.

I'll note you only gain skill points with the character you increase your fame rank with, though. By being rank 1 or 3 or whatever else you don't gain a bonus skill point for all your characters.
